WHEN PORTUGAL MEETS BRAZIL. THE NOSTALGIA OF FADO ALLIED WITH THE CHARM OF BOSSA NOVA

Rising star of fado, new Lisbon icon, the heiress… All superlatives were used to compare Carminho or Carmo Rebelo de Andrade (her real name), with her brillant elders. Carminho is all of this and so much more. Her first three album « Fado », « Alma » and « Canto » have made her an internationally recognised key artist. While on tour in Brazil, she made an impression on Brazilian music legends Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso and Milton Nascimento. These artists encouraged Carminho to bring together Fado and Bossa Nova : two musical worlds, which are so distant and yet so close. Following an invitation from the family of Tom Jobim, one of the founders of Bossa Nova, Carminho went to the famous Biscoito Fino studios in Brazil, to sing Tom Jobim’s repertoire accompanied by the ‘Banda Nova’, the last band who ever played with Tom Jobim, including Paulo and Daniel Jobim, his son, and grand-son. She also surrounded herself with guests of honour : the international superstar Marisa Monte, the famous cellist Jaques Morelenbaum, Maria Bethania, one of the greatest singers Brazil has ever known, the wonderful Brazilian actress Fernanda Montenegro, and the legendary singer-songwriter Chico Buarque.

By taking on Tom Jobim‘s repertoire, Carminho bends the rules of Fado to build a musical bridge at the center of which Portuguese music dazzles.
