DEMIAN DORELLI (My Window)

The son of an Italian fashion photographer and an English ballet dancer, Demian Dorelli grew up in an artistic environment. He chose music and more particularly the piano, which he learned at the age of eight. In addition to classical piano lessons, he used to go wild on the keyboards in his bedroom, playing The Specials and Madness tracks. Later, after seeing Bertrand Tavernier’s “Round Midnight” and listening to Herbie Hancock’s music, he got into jazz.

When his father left the fashion world to open a yoga centre in the Bahamas, Demian joined him and discovered a harmonious way of life that naturally became his own. He became a yoga teacher and taught for fifteen years in various ashrams around the world. Tireless, married with two daughters, he also worked as a plumber in the English countryside, as a technical trainer at Apple in Cambridge and as a tech consultant in Bangalore, India.But his passion for music and the piano never left him and encouraged by his long-time friend Alberto Fabris (producer of Ludovico Einaudi, Blonde Redhead…), he released his first album, a tribute to his musical hero Nick Drake. In Pink Moon, A Journey On Piano, he transcribed the 12 tracks of that folk masterpiece to piano.

In this second album My Window, Demian offers us nine original compositions for solo piano. Directly inspired by David Hockney’s collection of digital paintings and like that famous English painter who painted the world from his window, Demian takes us on a journey through his own poetic and melancholic vision of the world.Demian, who is passionate about painting, has once again worked with the artist Franco Matticchio, who illustrated each of the nine pieces that make up My Window.Influenced by Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Arvo Pärt, Rachmaninov and Chopin, Demian is finally coming into his own.
